Serene Foundation began in 2009 as a California non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation for the benefit of serving individuals suffering from addiction and wishing to follow an extended continuum of care through extended care, transitional sober living and sober living. For six years Serene Foundation issued affordable micro loans to individuals invested in their long-term recovery. Loan proceeds were paid directly to the continued care agencies for thier services, and repayment was made over a period of one year following the discharge of the borrower from the agencies.
Today, Serene Foundation improves the expertise, skills and education of professionals working with individuals suffering from addiction. It is through the betterment of treatment professionals that the most impact will be made on the treatment of addiction.
Serene Foundation, through its educational arm Serene Institute, offers conferences, workshops and classes that improve the professionals ability to engage individuals suffering from addiction and intervene on the symptoms of addiction. We focus on advanced skills and education that will enhance the therapeutic process and support the profession as a whole.
Serene Foundation also partners with other organizations to elevate the level of training to professionals working with individuals suffering from addiction.
Three Themes to Encourage Success:
Expertise is learned. The craft of working with individuals suffering from addiction is realized through knowledge and judgment combined with skill and education.
Competence is learned.
Knowledge is learned. Reasoning and judgment must be supported by a diverse knowledge base supporting the appropriate therapeutic interventions.
